Super 8 felt like a cross between the Goonies, and a different take on E.T. It was impressive to see the amount of character building, along with the reveal. This film was definitely geared towards a younger audience, because none of these ideas presented were new to an older audience. The editing in the shots were exceptional in terms of building an affinity for the young kids in the film. Many people within the crowd laugh out loud at many of the scenes within the film revolving around the children.
The time period is in the same world as Iron Giant, in terms of how to keep the mystery of the creature plausible through out the film. It's good to see a film where the visual effects really compliment the movie as opposed to being the feature of the movie.
